My term GPA is 3.84, my cumulative is currently 3.41 but MUS340 and CSE230 are replacement grades and it should rise to 3.82. The only surprise was the A+ in CSE230, I didn't think he gave +/- and that little extra bit caused my GPA to rise instead of fall (a difference of 0.02 points). After this semester it will take a lot of effort to raise my GPA very much, I will probably hover around 3.8 from here on out.

Drill is in Buckeye this weekend. We did driver's training on HMMWVs, LMTVs, and HEMTTs. The HEMTT is pretty fun to drive and the Guard has so much new equipment compared to my old unit in Germany it's crazy.

I'm making up AT this week, doing admin work and whatever else needs doing. Would have been nice to have a break, but whatever at least I'll get paid.

I switched from the IRR to the National Guard today. I have 2 years 38 weeks left on my contract, and am reclassing to 25B. My unit is at Papago which is very close and was the second factor (besides the reclass) that convinced me to join.

So I rocked the grades this semester, receiving a 4.14 GPA. My cumulative stands at 2.97 though it may go higher if I can get one of my grades replaced.
UPDATE: I got that grade replaced, my cumulative GPA Is now 3.23. I can now apply for most scholarships.

Had a bike accident today, hit another biker on University and College at the light. She was in the intersection when the light changed where I was waiting to continue on College. I didn't see her and edged out and she hit my front tire. She wasn't going too fast and neither of us were hurt. My handlebars were crooked and I have to readjust my front brakes. She was very nice and apologetic although really it was both our fault. She got those shakes you get from accidents like that but didn't want to sit down. I straightened her handlebars and put her chain back on and she went on her way and I on mine.

Just got back from my first day at work. I'm a Technology Consultant for the ASU University Technology Office (UTO). I'm starting out in classroom support in the evenings. We basically support all the media and technology needs of a ton of classrooms. If a professor is having problems with his computer/projector he calls us. We open up the classrooms in the morning and also do spot checks in between classes to make sure everything is OK. In the evenings we go to every classroom and do a little PMCS (Army term - Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services). Make sure the computer/projectors work. Test the audio/video systems, printers, etc. We also clean the whiteboards and make sure dry erase markers and erasers are replenished and post the next day's schedule on the classroom door. That's the day-to-day stuff. We also do slightly more technical things like replace or fix failed equipment, re-image computers, etc. Nobody is on like an identical shift as me but there were 4 of us students and 1 supervisor there until close at 10:30. I worked mostly with one of the other students but we split up at the end and I did two classrooms alone. It's not a complicated job really but it takes some time and it went by pretty quick. I don't think there will be much downtime until they hire some more people. Rocky (the supervisor) said they want to hire like 8 more so we may get more downtime later on.

A little
background.
So yeah most people find this somewhat amusing. Even my female friends who have a bit of sense realize this. A little bit of situational awareness goes a long way. Yeah the guy needs to have a talking to or an ass kicking or something before he escalates, but whatever.
The real issue is the texting and listening to music while walking. As a bicyclist this is so annoying. When I approach somebody somebody from the rear I yell 'on your left/right' to let them know I'm coming. Half of them don't hear me because they're in their own little world. I'd slap them on the back of the head if that was any more socially acceptable than the ass, but unfortunately it isn't. Pain is a great motivator. As a bonus maybe you'll notice the guy about to slap your ass and be able to give a useful description to the police.
Pay attention to your surroundings people. Look when you cross a street. Don't sit on the stairs or right outside of the door of an auditorium 500 people are about to come out of.

Today I got an email from someone wanting to buy my first domain,
dotd.com. I registered it in 1996 for my MUD, Desolation of the Dragon. This isn't the first time, in fact recently I've received more than normal attention. I'm not sure why and I haven't asked just responded with 'not for any reasonable amount'. If somebody wants to pay an unreasonable amount I may consider, after all it's only a domain!
I suppose 4 letter domains that aren't just random letters are pretty rare and have been for a while. In some ways it's like a low
Slashdot UID (mine is 1609 in case you were wondering). Supposedly a low /. UID went for $2000, don't know if it's true or what the UID was but wow!

Short version - I would highly recommend Site5 to anybody who needs an excellent, inexpensive hosting provider.
I use Site5 as my primary web host, including this blog. I've been a customer for about 3 years and have been very happy with their service. Even their cheapest plan has unlimited disk space and bandwidth, which is pretty awesome. I use their hostPro plan which only costs me $10/month because I pay by the year. I have about 58GiB of files on there now, most of that is my photos, and it's nice to know I don't have to worry about running out of space. You also get unlimited email accounts, databases, ftp accounts, etc. They have all the standard tools and software, and are pretty good about keeping them up to date. When I first signed up it was difficult to find a good PHP5 host, and so far I haven't had any real problems with Site5 and old software versions (excepting phpMyAdmin). They also give you shell access to your server, so for instance I can install a local copy of Pear if I need extra packages and not have to worry about contacting support. Their support is very good however, they respond to tickets very fast and usually know immediately what you're asking even for highly technical issues. I opened a ticket the other day about a small, random CGI script they used to provide but no longer do and they knew what I was talking about and suggested a workaround in about an hour. Another nice thing about the shell access is I can do my own backups (rsync over ssh FTW), though Site5 does backups too it's nice to have the extra protection. They provide 3 different webmail interfaces, as well as lots of spam filtering options. A custom cpanel interface which is very functional and easy to find stuff in (unlike stock cpanel which can be a pain sometimes). They do have an old version of phpMyAdmin which is buggy, I should probably open a ticket about that one of these days, I'm sure they'd fix it. They're good at notifying you via email about server outages. The server my account is on is fairly speedy, and not overloaded. Uptime is very good, they have a 99.9% guarantee (~9 hours/year). They took the server down earlier this month, not sure why but I don't have anything critical on my account anyway so a few hours downtime every year is perfectly acceptable to me.
